If you live in a cold climate - shout out to our Canadian, Midwest and North-East ladies! - you may not be able to play all winter long - but there are some options for you to keep your game up to speed all season long. For those of us who are playing a round or two in January, we’ll cover some of the best ways to keep your golf swing sharp in winter.

Have the correct equipment

Golf in winter can be unpredictable, so you’ll need a selection of equipment to help you brace for any impact - snow, rain, or frost.

Winter Wheels for your Cart

Pick out some winter wheels for your cart if you’re going to use a golf buggy or wheeled bag. This help them pick up less mud and make them easier to move around, causing less damage to the ground. However, the best way to keep your bags mud free is to get yourself a bag you can carry. You’ll be a little warmer walking around and you’ll keep your course looking spick and span.

High Visibility Balls

Using a high visibility ball - for example orange or bright yellow - makes finding your collection a lot easier to spot - especially in the frost and with low visibility.

Umbrella

How are you going to succeed without an umbrella to keep your focus strong? Rain, sleet, snow, or even extreme sun, a good sized umbrella will keep you dry and protect your bag.

Keep your golf balls warm

Everyone knows that a warm golf ball flies further than a cold one - no that’s no urban legend! That’s science! The rule of thumb is that for every 10 degrees that the air temperature drops, a ball will carry 2 yards shorter. One of the easiest ways to keep your golf balls warm is to keep them in your front pocket from green to tee.

Make the most of the driving range and golf domes

OK, we get it - it’s cold out here! Golf is so much easier when you don’t have to go outside, and heading to a covered - and sometimes heated - driving range or golf dome.

Visit the driving range or golf dome as often as possible and work out a routine.
